We are Bronwyn Ward-Manson and David Manson co-founders of DJM Personnel, a recruitment business based in London, UK, and DJM Marketplace.
We came from different backgrounds and a different range of experiences. (Bron, from the desert of South Australia and a career in education and business; Dave from the ‘wilds’ of the west coast of Scotland and a career in the corporate IT world of the city of London.) We came together with a shared dream - to start our own business.
For over twenty-five years we were best known for our work in recruiting high-quality staff from around the globe to teach in London schools. We had a reputation as one of the most highly regarded and successful teacher recruitment businesses in London, UK.
Travelling the globe taught us about the power of learning; how exposure to different cultures and new ideas reshapes world views. These experiences expanded our understanding of educational and business excellence and significantly influenced the way we built our business.
We learnt first hand the value of people; their diverse needs and abilities, and most important of all, that we have more in common than separates us. We stand up for what we believe in and stand up for those whose voices aren't heard. We never lose sight of what is important and what can be achieved when we work together to achieve individual and collective goals.
We believed a very simple premise:
You don’t build a business, you build the people, and the people build the business.
From the outset we focussed on the well-being of the people who worked with and for us; we listened to them, finding out what they wanted and how they wanted to work; we built a supportive community providing a sense of belonging and opportunities to share experiences and make connections.
DJM Personnel originally created educational resource books, guides, or training materials solely for the company's staff and clients. The demand for these materials grew, indicating they were high-quality and useful beyond the company's internal needs.
Recognising this demand, we decided to move away from just being a traditional recruitment firm, diversifying our business model into a new sector: designing and publishing online ebooks. That is how DJM Marketplace originated, as an internal tool within the recruitment firm DJM Personnel that over time grew into its own independent business.
